Are you looking for a job or wanting to move forward in your sector of activity? Have you thought about taking stock of your professional skills?

Hard skills, soft skills… and now mad skills: the terms used to describe the skills that recruiters are looking for are multiplying! You should be aware that each of them has a particular importance. Here’s our advice on how to identify them and make the most of them to boost your career.

HARD SKILLS: JOB EXPERTISE

Hard skills, or technical skills, are the know-how you need to carry out a profession.
There are as many technical skills as there are professions, and even more. So how do you acquire them?
Practice will be your best bet for acquiring these skills. The advantage is that you can continue to develop them throughout your working life, because you can learn them!

Some examples of hard skills:

  • Mastery of a tool or machine
  • Mastering software
  • Mastering a language

SOFT SKILLS: A FORCE TO BE RECKONED WITH

Soft skills are about you and your behavioural skills.
Some soft skills are innate, because each of us is predisposed to empathy, listening or organisation. But most soft skills can also be learned or reinforced. They include personality traits, emotional capacities and skills that can be acquired or developed, such as creativity or concentration.
What soft skills have in common is that they are cross-functional, unlike hard skills, which are more often than not specialised, technical and specialist.

Here are a few examples of soft skills:

  • organisational skills
  • adaptability
  • autonomy

MAD SKILLS: THE UNIQUENESS THAT MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Mad skills set you apart from other candidates.
*Be careful! Don’t confuse mad skills with centres of interest. A mad skill corresponds to an area of excellence, and necessarily involves strong experiences that stand out from the crowd.

Here are a few examples of mad skills:

  • Being a top sportsman
  • Being part of a live music group
  • Having built your own house
