The job of Chief Business Officer is very versatile. I am in charge of coordinating strategy development, leading business development projects and contributing to the promotion of our business lines within Crédit Agricole CIB, as well as monitoring the portfolio and rare resources. For Trade Finance, I lead an exercise to analyse our portfolios in order to help originators to better target new prospects and develop their market share on a client list.

I’m also working on the implementation of a new governance system concerning the relations of the Bank’s different departments with Export Credit Agencies. Moreover, after updating the standard invoicing conditions in France with the help of our Back-Office teams, I am now in charge of reviewing them for our European and Asian locations.

For my job, the busy period is from September to December, when we implement the new budgets and therefore define our objectives and strategy. But throughout the year, those of us working in International Trade are driven by global economic and political events that impact the needs and activities of our corporate and institutional clients. For example, for the Commodities business, fluctuations in the price of agricultural commodities have an impact on the financial health of our clients.

No two days are the same! I interact a lot with experts from my department or from other Front/Support divisions of the Bank to make progress on shared issues, particularly regulatory and operational ones.

I also frequently represent the International Trade business lines on committees involving issues such as the management of rare resources or solutions for the hedging and distribution of our assets. Lastly, I work on business analyses and development projects and I’m lucky enough to be able to have open and frequent exchanges with the business managers, which is very stimulating.

In 2009, I discovered Crédit Agricole CIB as a student at Audencia (Nantes Management School) for an exciting gap year as an Assistant Senior Banker for French mid-caps clients. After an experience in Commodities Finance in another Bank, in 2011, I joined the Crédit Agricole CIB General Inspectorate as an Auditor and then as Chief Project Manager.

These experiences enabled me to acquire a good understanding of the Bank’s operations and challenges and therefore to be autonomous and proactive from the moment I took up my position in the International Trade & Transaction Banking department, despite my limited expertise in International Trade at the time.

In terms of gender diversity, I think there is still a long way to go when you look at the composition of the Bank’s Top Management, where women are finally rather under-represented.

Nevertheless, I note that there is a momentum building up, with many initiatives to promote equality, a great deal of awareness-raising and a strong message with the arrival of a woman in the General Management. I think that Crédit Agricole CIB’s score (84/100) in the recent publication of the gender quality index reflects this momentum.
